Alright so if you read my last post about my food sensitivity test, a lot of you may now be wondering if your weight issues could be related to a gluten-sensitivity too. It definitely COULD be a possibility, BUT so could a host of other things, like your overall diet and exercise habits. I also know that there are people with gluten-sensitivity for whom weight gain isn’t a factor. Everybody’s chemical makeup is different and things that work for some people, don’t always work for others!
In the last year or so there has been an increased awareness of gluten-sensitivity in the media thanks to celebrities. Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian have sworn by gluten-free eating for weight loss, so naturally, everybody is now talking about a gluten-free diet as a weight loss solution. (In my opinion, they were both twigs to begin with so I don’t really know how much weight loss can be attributed to eating gluten-free in their cases).
There’s a book called “The Wheat Belly” that addresses the idea of this relation between gluten and weight gain. It’s written by cardiologist Dr. William Davis, who found astonishing health effects other than what he expected, when he asked patients to remove all wheat products from their diet. I have been too busy over the school semester to read it but Christmas break is coming (in three weeks! :D) and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!!! I have read a bit about it online and it sounds totally mind-boggling!
You can look forward to my thoughts on the book and what he says about eating gluten-free in regards to your weight, in early January sometime. Until then, hold tight with your gluten-free and weight-loss thoughts!
